Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Siv Ottosson Blanchard passed away Jan. 21, 2017 surrounded by all eight of her children, her two sisters and many of her daughters-in-law and grandchildren after a short hospital stay due to complications originally starting from heart disease. Siv was born on May 30, 1944 in Karlskrona, Sweden as the first child of Klara and Eskil Ottosson. Her family would later welcome three other sisters Marianne, May, Eva and one brother John. When Siv was 7 years old, her family was contacted by missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Two and half years later Siv, her mother, and father were baptized members. Siv was already 7 ½ years old when her first sister was born and learned early on to nurture and care for others as she helped care for her younger siblings. She also learned to work hard at a young age and started full-time baby sitting at age 12. After graduating from Swedish high school she took a job as a nurses’ aid while waiting to be old enough to be accepted into nursing school. Her dream to become a nurse was never fulfilled, but instead was replaced by another dream. At age 18, Siv moved to America, leaving her family behind in Sweden, to pursue greater opportunities and to be closer to the LDS Church. This was a challenging and exciting step for Siv and blessed the lives of all of her children and the rest of her family in Sweden, who eventually joined her the following year. Siv married Farrell Blanchard on August 15, 1964. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1965. They were blessed with seven sons and one daughter. Siv had set aside her education when she married and devoted herself to becoming a full-time mother. After she and Farrell divorced in 1985, she was required to re-enter the work field. She worked as a custodian for the LDS Church for the next 32+ years up until her passing. She was an extremely hard worker who took great pride in her work. She also completely dedicated herself to providing for her family, often working two jobs once her children got a little older to make sure that they never did without. Siv enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and baking, but by far, her greatest joys in life revolved around her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren. She did everything in her power to gather her family together regularly and often insisted in doing all the work to put together family parties. Her favorites were Halloween, Christmas, Easter and monthly birthday dinners. All of us are going to miss being with her during these special times. She also loved not only her children but all of her children’s friends and was a mother to many. Her house was always a gathering place where everyone who came felt of her love, nurture, and acceptance. Siv was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in numerous callings in the primary and Relief Society. She died firm in the faith and we are confident that she has returned worthily into the arms of her loving Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ. Siv was preceded in death by her parents and her younger sister May. She is survived by her eight children; Richard (Julie) Blanchard, Robert (Melanie) Blanchard, Larry (Micha) Blanchard, Eric (Andrea) Blanchard, Steve (Angie) Blanchard, Tim (Anna) Blanchard, Karen (Jonathan) Ficklin, and Kevin (Shawna) Blanchard. She is also survived by her 31 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, each of which she loved individually and deeply. We know that she will continue to love and be with each of us for that is who she is. We love you so much mom and can’t wait to be with you again!!! In lieu of flowers, Siv has requested donations be made to the LDS Church’s Perpetual Education Fund. Funeral services will be held at the Brigham City Stake Center 650 Anderson Dr Brigham City, UT on Friday Jan 27, 2017 at 11AM with a viewing from 9:00-10:30. A viewing will also be held Thursday evening prior at Gillies Funeral Chapel 634 E 200 South in Brigham City from 6-8pm. Interment will be in the Brigham City cemetery.

We only got the chance to talk with Siv once. But we all felt her humour, love and compassion. We are truly honored and greatful for getting to know her and all of the Blanchards.
