BRIGHAM CITY - Saundra Lynn Gottschalk Nelsen was born July 1, 1954 in Huntington Park, CA and passed at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, UT September 13, 2017 after a lengthy illness with kidney failure. Sandy was an active girl in her youth, playing catcher in softball and participating in Girl Scouts of America. Her family moved all over Southern California in her youth. Sandy was the eldest daughter of Gordon and Shirley Gottschalk. She attended Chabot Junior College in Hayward, CA. She met Ralph Tappan while working for Intel. They later married and had 2 daughters, Lynde and Kimberlee. In 1979, they moved to Brigham City, UT to work at Morton Thiokol. Sandy was a resident of Brigham City at her passing. Sandy and Ralph divorced in 2001. Sandy was an active member of the Brigham City 20th Ward. She was a faithful teacher in the Relief Society and Primary. She loved watching her Primary children grow up to serve missions and get married. She had a strong testimony of the Restored Gospel and rejoiced in the ability to make sacred covenants in the temple. Sandy epitomized the Christ like characteristics for Faith, Hope, and Charity. She was always the first on a scene to serve. In 2004 Sandy met Robert Nelsen. They were married and sealed in the Ogden UT Temple on November 27, 2004. Sandy loved her family and many friends. She loved animals and the house was always full of pets. Cache and Frankie will miss her greatly. She had a talent for making people feel good about themselves and spreading beauty wherever she went. Sandy worked at Intel in CA, Morton Thiokol in Thatcher, UT, and Fresenius of Ogden, UT. She was an owner of the Drewes Flower Shop in Brigham City, UT. She was also an award winning Avon Representative for 30 years. She loved to visit with her Avon customers. Sandy is survived by her husband, Robert G. Nelsen II of Brigham City, UT; daughters Lynde (Brent) Roberts of Farmville, VA and Kimberlee (Matt) Cool of Brigham City, UT; 4 stepdaughters, Brandi, Samantha, Andrea, Shana and their families; 20 grandchildren Kaitlynn, Abigail, Wyatt, Benjamin, Jaxen, Chris, Blake, Carter, Oleesia, Shaenin, Chris, Jonathan, AnnaBeth, Sabryna, Ruby, Hailey, Abby, Bryce, Jack and Benjamin ; 2 great-granddaughters Lakynn, Kendall and one great grandson, Caeden ; two sisters Debra (Bill) Myers of Boise, ID; Wendy (Brent) Williams of Brigham City, UT; stepfather Wesley Coffee of Tremonton, UT and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Gordon Gottschalk and Shirley Coffee as well as her stepmother, Patricia Gottschalk. The family would like to thank the staff at McKay Dee Hospital, and Mt. Ogden Rehabilitation for their services and care on her behalf and all other people who helped her in her illness. Viewing will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City and on Monday, Sept. 18th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Funeral service will be held on Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Brigham City LDS 20th Ward Chapel, 650 Anderson Drive. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
