Today the heavens gained a giant. John Eugene Garcia truly lived. John was born September 25, 1952, to Julia Vigil and Albert Ray Garcia. John was born and raised in Ogden Utah. He attended St. Joseph's High School and studied at Weber State University. John married Pamela Shumway in 1974. They were blessed with four wonderful boys. Nash Jonathan, Joshua Paul, Jacob Robert and Quinten Peter. Although most of his life was spent moving from one place to another, a new adventure came when John met Amanda “Mandy” Israelsen. John was a Jack of all trades and a master of none. There was nothing he couldn’t do if he wanted to. He loved leather work, recreating history, knitting, being a musician, road tripping, coaching Special Olympics, serving others and above all John loved being, grandpa, papa & partner John. John was a member of many communities over the years. Some of his favorites were the two wheeled family, the rendezvous clan, and Special Olympics. John's presence in this life was of a loving compassionate leader both to his family and those people he collected along the way. John lived a purely unique life that enabled him to connect with everyone he met. John is survived by his wife and life partner of 20 years M, his mom Julia Garcia, brothers Bud, Vince, Tim and sister Cathy, his handsome sons Nash (Megan), Josh (Jenny), Jake (Sherina) and Q, all of his prized grandchildren, Skyler, Sage, Micah, Ira, Porter, Joyce, Maisee and O’Flynn, his favorite black and white Bella, many cherished uncles, aunts and cousins. John was preceded in death by his dad Albert Garcia. The most important lesson John learned was to "enjoy the ride". Welcome to the next leg of your journey John, we know you will be teaching someone somewhere. Please share your “ride” by texting us a photo, wherever you are on Thursday October, 5 at 6:00 p.m. to 801.336.8061. A funeral service will be held on Saturday October 7, 2017 at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, at 5:00 pm. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 3-4:30 pm.
