Funeral services: Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Brigham City LDS 4th Ward Chapel, 25 N 300 E, Brigham City

Interment: Willard Cemetery


BRIGHAM CITY – Our loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle, Edward James “Ted” Stanley Barnes, 97, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Ogden Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 19, 1920 in Hull, Yorkshire, England, the son of Edward and Mary Widdowson Barnes. He graduated from South High School in 1937. He served an LDS Mission to Hawaii and spoke the Hawaiian language and he served in the US Army during World War II and while in Hawaii, he worked as a civilian at Pearl Harbor. Ted married his sweetheart, Elaine Wood on September 10, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on July 23, 1997. He then married Helen LaVoy Gill in Salt Lake City. She preceded him in death on April 4, 2015. Ted has served as a Bishop and High Counselor in California. While living in Brigham City he served as Young Men’s President, Primary Teacher and a home teacher. He had worked at Acme Paint in Ogden; Hamilton Drug, Grand Central in Brigham City. He owned and operated, Brigham Glass and Paint in Brigham City and Logan, then Barnes Glass and Paint. He enjoyed fishing, being with his grandchildren and going and working in the temple. Surviving are his four children: Stan (Meladee) Barnes, Brigham City; Suzette Elaine Hernandez of Beaver Dam; Craig (Susan) Barnes, Boise, ID; Lynette M. Barnes, Brigham City; 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren; brother, Tom (Carol) Barnes, Midvale; sister, Margaret Thiessens, Colorado Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Elaine and Helen; son, Kenny Barnes; son-in-law, Juventino Hernandez; sister Leona Millet, Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Brigham City LDS 4th Ward Chapel, 25 North 300 East with a viewing at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A viewing will be held Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, Utah. Interment will be in the Willard City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Box Elder County Honor Guard.

sorry for your loss in the short period i knew ted we enjoyed lunches and running errands. He taught mentored me and helped me learn more about lds history as well his life friend ron enjoyed talking paint and glass conversations as ron is a comercial and house painter they knew all the same people in the paint and glass buisness. he will be missed and we send our condolences to his family.sorry for your loss
