Our wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother Dorene Hendricks Skidmore passed away on September 22, 2017. She was born in Providence, Utah on November 16, 1932 to Alton Webb Hendricks and Dora Pickett. She was the eldest of eight children, but had four siblings (Janice & June, Lorna and Rodney) pass away as infants. Dorene is survived by her husband of 63 years, Bill; children Farrell (Laura), Fruit Heights; Mark (Nancy), Fruit Heights; Lorna (Brad), Bountiful; Barbara (Clint), Idaho Falls; and Cheryl (Brian), Kaysville. She is also survived by her siblings Ruth Dalley, Elizabeth Miller, and Randall Hendricks. She leaves behind 20 grandchildren; 12 grandchildren “in-law” who she considered her own; and 29 great-grandchildren. Dorene loved spending time with her many Pickett cousins. She attended Park Elementary School, Richmond Utah; George School, Portland, Oregon for 5th & 6th grades and North Cache High School, Richmond, Utah. She started dating William J. Skidmore in 1953 and they were married on May 10, 1954 in the Logan Temple while he was on furlough from the Army. They moved to Brigham City, Utah and raised five children. She had all five children at Bunderson Elementary at one time. Dorene worked as an insurance clerk for 23 years at Brigham Medical Clinic. All of the doctors and staff at the clinic have been very good to her and her family. Dorene was an excellent homemaker and seamstress. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many positions throughout her life including Relief Society President, Primary teacher, chorister, Den Leader, Sunday School Teacher and many others. Bill and Dorene worked as ordinance workers in the Ogden temple for many years and served in the Tulsa Oklahoma mission from 1999-2000. After that they were called to be Webelos’ Leaders for seven years and she earned the District Merit award for scouting. She thought of those young boys as their own. She was thrilled about having a temple in Brigham City and was able to attend often. Dorene’s family meant everything to her. She had a way of making every grandchild feel like he/she was her favorite. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary, and still had many cards ready to be sent. She sacrificed a great deal to have a week-long family reunion at Bear Lake every summer for 35 years with as many family members attending as possible. Bill and Dorene were able to travel to many different places as well as traveling to help tend grandchildren. Dorene loved to read and do crossword puzzles. She had a phenomenal memory her entire life. She faithfully wrote in her journal every week for over 50 years which is now 1956 pages. Dorene loved people and would strike up a conversation with anyone. Dorene’s family would like to thank all of the neighbors who have given so much help to their parents in the last few months. Funeral services are being entrusted to Gillies’ Funeral Chapel in Brigham City and will be held on Friday, September 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City 17th L.D.S. Ward Building 139 East 300 North, Brigham City Utah. Friends and family may also attend a viewing at the same location on Thursday, September 28 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. or Friday morning from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Brigham City Cemetery.

Leave Condolences

To one of my favorite people. She is one of a kind. Very giving and very willing to do so much for everyone. It is still hard to believe that she has left this earthly life. She will be remembered for many special ways. She had a deep abiding testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ and her Heavenly Father. May she always know how much our family- next door neighbors for 13 or so years love her and Bill. Sincerely,

Greg and Leslee Bowman- Carrisa Dominy, Jared Rasmussen
