Charles "Charlie" Ray Starr

SYRACUSE/BRIGHAM CITY – Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, Charles "Charlie" Ray Starr, 77, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at his home in Syracuse, UT. He was born on March 22, 1940 in Emmett, Idaho, a son of Lewis Clair and Sarah Pauline Martin Starr Sherrill. He loved his step father, Taylor Finis Sherrill. Charlie graduated from Emmett High School in 1958. He joined the Marine Corps in Jan. of 1960 and was discharged in Nov. of 1969. He married his sweetheart, Mariellen Hansen on September 17, 1962 in the Logan LDS Temple. Charlie was the Bank Manager in Brigham City, Utah retiring in 2002. He was active in the Sons of Utah Pioneers, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Boy Scout Leader and Scout Master. He loved singing and sports. Surviving are his wife, Mariellen; six children; Michael (Karen) Starr; Christopher (Lori) Starr; Elizabeth (Bill) Silva; Brian (Stacy) Starr; Jeremy (Kathryn) Starr; Heidi Starr; 22 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and one step- sister, Rose Hurd. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Melanie Starr, one sister and one brother. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Buffalo Ridge LDS Ward, 2500 South Bluff Road, Syracuse, Utah., where military honors will be accorded by the Box Elder County Veterans Honor Guard. Charlie and I were good friends, we sat by each other at our Bank Manager's meetings. I transferred to Brigham City from Coalville after 23 years there to manage the Branch after Charlie retired. I will miss my old friend. He was a hard guy to follow!
