Betty Huggins Claybaugh


Sept. 9, 1940 – Sept. 21, 2017

Betty Huggins Claybaugh passed away Sept. 21, 2017, at Brigham City Hospital at the age of 77. She was born Sept. 9, 1940, to Clifford and Ruth Huggins. Betty graduated from Box Elder High School and Stevens Heneger College. She married Charles “Tuff” Claybaugh on Dec. 19, 1960. They were married 57 years. Betty helped her husband graduate from Utah State University. She worked at Thiokol for many years as a stenographer and secretary. She later worked at the family business, the Box Elder News Journal. Betty is survived by her husband, Charles “Tuff”; three children: Krissy (Dan) Eastlick, Casey (Stephanie) Claybaugh and Matt Claybaugh; six grandchildren: Jake (Megan) Eastlick, Jacqueline Eastlick, Kade Claybaugh, Kort Claybaugh, Megan Claybaugh and Riley Claybaugh. Sisters, Debra (Randy) Baird and Rochelle Lewis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Clifford Huggins, her sister, Sandra (Duke) Nelsen and her brother, Clifford (Margaret) Huggins. Tuff and Betty enjoyed yard work and gardening at their home in Brigham City, and their favorite past time was boating. Tuff and Betty spent many fun-filled summers at Flaming Gorge. They also took their boat to the Puget Sound and spent three summers boating around the San Juan islands in Washington state and Canada on their 34-foot Searay. Betty was a very loving and kind person, wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. Funeral services will be held at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, on Monday, Sept. 25. Friends may visit with family beginning at 12 p.m., prior to the service at 1 p.m.
