Brigham City, Utah – Alan Emil Gaertner, 60, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017. He was born on February 26, 1957 in LaGrande, Oregon a son of Wayne Paul and Betty Elaine Yeakley Gaertner. Alan was reared and educated in LaGrande, Oregon. He married his angel, Mary Ellen Kozub on October 22, 2009 in Dalton, Ohio. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Columbus Ohio Temple on June 16, 2012. Alan was employed by WalMart as a transportation professional. He was a member of the Brigham City LDS 4th Ward. Alan loved gardening, nature, cutting firewood in the forest, watching old movies, family history, reading, writing and story telling. Alan also attended every temple he could as he crossed the country. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ellen; son, Gabe (Emily) Gaertner; step-daughters, Renee (David) Smith; Angela (Andrew) Perris; Michelle Wolfe, 9 grandchildren; four siblings, Linda (Jerry) Foutz; Terry (Cristy) Gaertner; Carol Murphy; Lenae Poppe and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents. Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Brigham City Cemetery. A viewing will be held prior from 1:00 to 1:40 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City.

To all of you, but especially Terry, Cristy, and Lenae, having lost my wife in May, I know your grief, and I am saddened by Alan's passing. I remember him as one of the most consistently smiling and laughing people I ever met. I am sorry.

Mary Ellen,I just want to express my humble condolences for you!! Im so sorry about Alan's passing. He was such an awesome man and the two of you are the perfect couple. Ill miss seeing both of you. I pray for the comforter/Savior to wrap His loving arms around you to comfort and support you as you adjust to these changes in your life. And know my thoughts & prayers have been with you since i found out Alan had passed. Love,
