Robert (Bob) James Bingham, Sr. passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, May 27, 2016 from complications due to cancer. He was born February 29th, 1928 in Amalga, Utah, the second child of Wallace James Bingham and Ada Mae Wood. Bob grew up on the family farm in Amalga learning how to raise livestock, grow crops and build all sorts of useful items. These skills were present as an adult in his love for animals, his ability to grow the best tasting produce and his uncanny knack to fix just about anything. Bob was also known as being a “true cowboy”; hard working, tough as nails, soft hearted and putting other’s needs first. Those that met Bob, instantly felt comfortable around him and know that they had met someone very special. Bob graduated North Cache HS, in 1946, and went on to attend Utah State and Weber State University where he earned a teaching certificate in Automotive Engineering. Bob was inducted into the US army in 1951, achieved the rank of Platoon Sargent and was chosen to serve at divisional headquarters as an honor guard in Trieste, Italy, during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1953. Bob’s professional career included using his heavy equipment skills at Jack B. Parsons Construction and later at Thiokol Job Corps in Clearfield, UT, where he taught farming to the students. Bob was eventually promoted to Manager of Vocation Training at Job Corps, in large part due to his ability to positively motivate those around him. He finished out his career as a Manufacturing Engineer at Thiokol (ATK), where he helped to deliver the Peacekeeper MX system. Bob married Florence E. Licata on December 4, 1964 in Brigham City, Utah and remained married to her for 52 years until her passing in January 2016. Together, they had a son, Robert J. (Beth) Bingham, Jr. of Everett, WA. He was also a caring parent to Florence’s children from a previous marriage, Gina M. Hill of Ogden, UT and Richard W. Jefferis of Snohomish, WA. In addition, Bob has seven grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife Florence, his parents, and his siblings, Marva (Bingham) Rock, Bonnie (Bingham) Graham, and W. LaMont Bingham. Viewings will be held on Friday, June 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 1:00 to 1:40 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, Utah. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., also at Gillies Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Calls Fort Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Combined Veterans of Box Elder County. In lieu of flowers, Bob wanted donations given to the Children’s Tumor Foundations (www.ctf.org) to be used in research on finding a cure for Nerurofibromatosis (NF).
