Our loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Ferrin Leon Allen, died on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 in Brigham City, Utah. He was born in Smithfield, Utah on August 31, 1928, the son of Fernando Lowe Allen and Alta Chambers. He was reared in Smithfield and attended elementary school there and graduated from North Cache High School in 1946. Ferrin married Betty Jane Kendall on September 25, 1950 in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. She preceded him in death on November 25, 2010. He had devoted most of his life to the profession of education. He graduated with a B.S. and M.S. from Utah State University and taught in the Box Elder County School District and Intermountain Indian School. He had also worked as a technical writer at Thiokol and as a training specialist at the Defense Depot Ogden. He found his work with young Indian people especially rewarding during his 20 years at the Indian School. He also enjoyed the work he was able to do as a speech therapist when recruited out of retirement. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ferrin served a mission to the Netherlands from 1947-1950. He served many years in various music positions, including Stake Sunday School Board, Stake Music Director, ward choir director and ward chorister. He found being chorister in the Primary to be the most exciting and rewarding. He served in two bishoprics, on the stake high council, director of the Brigham City Regional Language Extraction Center and as a devoted home teacher. He served for many years as a Sunday School and priesthood quorum instructor, positions that he dearly loved. He and his wife also served a church service mission to the Brigham City Regional Bishop’s Storehouse. He also worked in the Boy Scouts of American for more than 25 years. Ferrin served in Eisenhower’s Army of Occupation in Germany from 1950-52. He became a sergeant in the 4th Quarter Master Company of the 4th Infantry Division. While in Germany in the Army he studied music at the Frankfurt Music Academy. Ferrin and his wife were the parents of four children. Kendall Lowe (Karin); Michael Lynn (Karen); Gary Dean (Sue); Lisa (Thomas) Braegger. He is survived by his children and 12 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City LDS 12th Ward Building, 139 East 300 North. Viewings will be held Friday, May 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, UT and on Saturday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by Combined Box Elder County Veterans Honor Guard.
Kendall, Michael, Gary, and Lisa. I am sorry to hear that your father has passed. He was always so kind to our family. I have many fond memories of him at the family reunions. May you feel comfort from Angels in heaven and angels on earth. You will be in my families thoughts and prayers.
