Charles Walter Shoun, Brigham City Utah, died January 19, 2016, at Willow Glen Nursing home in Brigham City Utah, at the age of 87. Charles was born June 10, 1928 in Jerome, Idaho, the son of H. Maine Shoun and Leona P. Shoun. He attended school in Jerome and Caldwell, Idaho. He graduated from the University of Idaho in 1950 as a Mechanical Engineer. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was in the Army Reserve, retiring as a Command Sergeant Major in 1983. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit for his service. During his military service, he served as First Sergeant of a Combat Engineer Company, First Sergeant of a Field Artillery Battery, Operations Sergeant of a Field Artillery Battalion, Sergeant Major of a Division General Staff, and Division Command Sergeant Major. He married Martha Louise Mault in Toledo, Ohio, on March 24, 1956. Then he was employed by the Electric AutoLite Company as a design project engineer. They moved from Toledo to Brigham City, Utah in 1958. Charles was employed by Thiokol Corporation as a Project Engineer and a Program Manager until his retirement in 1988. Charles enjoyed high power rifle target shooting and participated in matches in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and in the National Championship Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio each year after his retirement. He was classified as an Expert rifleman. He enjoyed hand loading his ammunition. Charles also enjoyed using his computer. He was the Owner- Operator of the Indian Creek and Pacific Model Railroad. Charles was a charter member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Brigham City, serving various offices over the years, as a member of the church council, adult Sunday school teacher, and other activities. He was called to be the Editor of the church newsletter, The Crusader, in 1993, and prepared the newsletter each month until 2010. He is survived by his two children, Stephanie Jane Shoun Forquer, of Florida , and Stephen James Shoun, of California. He is also survived by five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and his brother John Shoun, Susanville, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Martha, and one son who died at birth. Funeral services will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 750 East 100 South, Brigham City, Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held Wednesday, January 27, at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham from 6-8 p.m. and again prior to the services from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the church. Pastor Mike Galica, will be officiating the service. Burial will be at the Brigham City Cemetery after the services.
