Brigham City- Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend Beulah Daines Petersen passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Sunday January 3, 2016. Beulah was born in Preston Idaho on May 21, 1922 to Newel George Daines and Verna Rainey. Beulah grew up in Logan Utah. She graduated from Utah State University and did post-graduate work at UCLA and the University of Utah. She lived in Boston, New York, Montpelier ID, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City and Brigham City. She was married to Robert H. Burgoyne from 1943-1977. She married Vern H. Petersen on November 12, 1979 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Throughout her long life she served in many leadership positions in the Young Women and Primary organizations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including seven years on the General Primary Board. While on the Primary Board she had assignments in the United States, Canada and Europe, and chaired committees in church curriculum and music. She also had the special responsibility to work with the handicapped primaries. She was a talented seamstress who taught and worked in the fashion industry in New York City and New Jersey. Out of love and for the joy of creation she blessed family and friends by designing wedding dresses and cakes, and creating all varieties of home furnishings. Beulah was the primary architect for two beautiful homes including the one Vern, her contractor husband, built in Brigham City Utah. Surviving are her four children, Diane (Steven) Pond of Longview WA, Robert (Adrienne) Burgoyne of San Tan Valley AZ, John (Candy) Burgoyne of Bellevue WA, Elizabeth (Brett) Merrell of Bountiful UT; 22 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by six step children, Pat Petersen of Harrisville UT, Gary (Patty) Petersen of Coeur D’Alene ID, Brent (Ruth) Petersen of Payson UT, Jim (Barbara) Petersen of Bend OR, Chad (Anna) Petersen of Bend OR, and Michael Petersen of Lasanimas CO; 21 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren. In addition, she has nine surviving siblings, Newel (Jean) Daines, Patricia (Duane) Chadwick, Janet McCowin, David (Ronna) Daines, Paul (Alene) Daines, Helen Harvath, Jonathan (Elaine) Daines, Samuel (Margaret) Daines, Stephen Daines, and one sister-in-law Kari Daines. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vern Petersen, brother, Robert Daines and one brother-in-law, Jack Harvath. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the 13th Ward LDS chapel, 25 North 300 East, at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held Friday, January 8, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City and again Saturday, prior to the service at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
We love and miss you Grandama! We will see you again. Thank you for building such a wonderful family.

I was so sorry to read of your mother's passing. Her obituary was such a tribute. She was one talented and educated woman. I think we're only beginning to see how blessed we really have been to have had great parents. Just wanted you to know I was thinking about you, your loss, and our understanding of eternal families.

Beulah, one of my dearest friends over many years. I have such fond memories of our sharing times together. I send my forever love to you, her family.
