In the early hours of November 2, 2015, Walter Shaw Bailey quietly slipped away from his earthly life to join his wife, Margaret, in a joyful reunion. Walter was born on June 3, 1912 to James Alma Bailey and Ellen Louise Shaw Bailey in North Ogden, UT. He grew up in North Ogden and graduated from Weber High School. He married Margaret Harding on December 31, 1937. Together, they danced their way through all the area dance halls. Walt and Margaret moved to Burley, Idaho in 1948 where Walt became a distributer for Phillips 66. An avid horseman, he loved riding with the Cassia County Sheriff's Mounted Posse, traveling with good friends, and performing at rodeos. The family moved back to North Ogden in 1964 where Walt started North Ogden Finance Company, which he managed until he retired. He enjoyed yearly trips to Yellowstone, camping, gathering with family, and fishing with his favorite fishing buddies -- brother, Bill, and brother-in-law, Dee. Walt and Margaret had four children; Robert W. (Brenda) Bailey, Jack S. (Gracie) Bailey, Kent N. (Bonnie) Bailey and Ann (Roy) Brinkerhoff. They were sealed as an eternal family in the Ogden LDS temple on June 28, 1978. The family now consists of 18 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Walt lived 103 years, four months, and 30 days. Walt is survived by his brother, William Bailey. He was preceded in death by one son, Jack Stephan Bailey and, well . . . just about everybody he knew. Services will be held at the LDS chapel at 950 E 2850 N in North Ogden. Viewings will be Sunday, November 8, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. and Monday, November 9, 2015 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Ben Lomond Cemetery, 550 E 2850 N in North Ogden. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the LDS Church Humanitarian Fund.
May the Lord bless and comfort you and your family during this time of grief. Please accept my sincere condolences.
Sending hugs and love to Kent and Bonnie, Ann and Roy, Bob and Brenda and Gracie. Uncle Walt was my favorite uncle of all time and I was so proud to tell anyone who would listen that I was his niece. He always brought a smile to my face or made me laugh. I will miss him dearly, but he will forever hold a special place in my heart. I hope he and Terry meet up soon and sit down and have a nice long conversation. I love the fact that Families Are Forever. Love You, Uncle Walt.
Mr. Bailey was a great man that always made you feel welcome into his home, whether you were from C Street or Parowan. His humor and spirit will be greatly missed by all. Sorry for your loss.
