Brigham City – Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend, Ruth Hillam Elgan, 95, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2015 in Ogden, Utah.
She was born on May 4, 1920 in Brigham City, Utah, the ninth child of ten to Abraham Dinsdale and Lenora Ann Bywater Hillam. She was reared and educated in Brigham City and graduated from Box Elder High School and was a licensed beautician.
Ruth married her sweetheart, Grover Forrest Elgan, on November 19, 1941 in the Logan LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on November 6, 1994.
Ruth and Grover lived in California, Kentucky, Oregon, Washington, Montana and returning to Brigham City in 1961 to her childhood home where she was born.
She worked at Vega in Los Angeles, where she assembled aircraft during World War II and at Box Elder Junior High School as a hot lunch cook. Her favorite job was being a homemaker to her family.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she was an active member serving in the Relief Society, Young Women’s, Primary and a visiting teacher.
Ruth loved the outdoors, following her husband where he worked for the Department of Fish and Wildlife. She loved to fish and out fished her husband more than he wanted. Ruth was a caregiver, peacemaker, extraordinaire. She always made each of her children and grandchildren feel like they were her favorite.
Surviving are her five children: Glenn F. (Linda – deceased) Elgan, Brigham City; DeeAnn (Michael) Canfield, South Ogden; Steve (Barbara) Elgan, Southinaton, CT; Monty (Dixie) Elgan, Perry; Kimberlee (Kenneth) Thomas, Las Vegas, NV; 22 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover, five brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, UT.
Viewings will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m. at the funeral chapel.
Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.

We are so sorry to hear of the loss of Aunt Ruth. What a wonderful example she set for all of her family. We know that she will be greatly missed.
