LOGAN - Vleria (Val) Stokes Torbenson, 86 passed away peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2014 in Logan, Utah surrounded by the love of her family, returning to her Heavenly Father and her eternal companion. Val was born January 18, 1928 in Ogden, Utah to Charles William Stokes and Rose Robinson. She was the youngest of four children. Val grew up in Promontory, Utah and attended school at Box Elder High school graduating in 1945. She taught elementary school and later obtained her beautician’s license. She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 1953-1955 in the North Central States Mission which included Minnesota and parts of Canada. Val met her future husband Harris Loyal Torbenson in the mission field. She made such a strong impression on Harris that he followed her home after her mission and they were married in the Logan LDS Temple on July 8, 1955. Harris and Val were blessed with four children; Craig, Colleen, ReNae, and Brent. Val was an active member of the LDS church and served in many callings with a special talent and interest in genealogy. Over the years Val and Harris managed apartment complexes and a Bed and Breakfast Lodge. Surviving are her four children: Craig (Bonnie) Torbenson, Colleen (Randy) Knipfer, ReNae Torbenson, Brent (DaLeen) Torbenson; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and her sister Rosalie Wells. Val was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers Chester and Devere. Special thanks to the staff at Primrose Homecare and Hospice. Mother we love you so much. See you in the morning. Funeral services will be held Friday May 23, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Henry's Point LDS Chapel, 680 South 1250 West in Logan. There will be a viewing on Thursday May 22, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, Utah and on Friday from 12 Noon to 12:40 at the church. Interment will be at the Brigham City Cemetery.
