Ralph Reed Channell

DRAPER - Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at the age of 85. He was born on May 5, 1929 in Logan, Utah, son of Ralph and Fern Channell. He married Barbara Winther on June 8, 1951 in the Logan LDS Temple. He later married Linda Caraway on November 2, 1984 and was sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings during his life including Bishop, Stake High Council, and Stake Mission President. He was also an ordinance worker at the Jordan Temple. He served a full time mission in New England. During the Korean Conflict, Reed served his country in the army and was stationed in Georgia and Heidelberg, Germany. During his time in Germany, his wife, Barbara served as a full time missionary in New England. Reed was a graduate of Weber Jr. College received his Bachelors and Masters Degree from Utah State University and a PhD from the University of Utah. Reed served as a high school counselor in the Granite School District in Utah. Later in California he served as a teacher, district counselor and administrator in San Diego Unified School District. Reed served as a high school principal in San Gabriel, California. He was Director of Counseling, Curriculum & Pupil Personnel Services in Coronado Unified School District. After retiring, Reed ventured into real estate, owning and managing several commercial properties. Above all, he loved his family and was always concerned for their well-being. Reed had a great life, having been blessed with two marriages, both of which were sealed to him in the Temple. He is especially cognizant of Barbara's help in getting his education and raising his children while he was Bishop and to Linda for her assistance in finishing his life with extra care, nourishment and special love. That allowed him to leave this earth in a happy and content manner. Having been allowed to have two wonderful wives here on this earth is a blessing few receive. He is survived by his wife Linda; his seven children, Ron (Sandy); Paul (Alma); Jeanne; Christine Hill (Adam); Larin (Sherrie); Sarah Winnen (Chris Callado); Ryan Channell; stepson Daron Case (Vanessa); step daughter Deborah Case Ross (Tom); 19 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and his brother-in-law, James Demos. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fern and Ralph, two sisters, Valene Demos and Nellie Channell, wife, Barbara and daughter, Laurie. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 26, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City.
