NIBLEY – Beloved husband, father, grandfather (Bompa), son, brother, and friend, Kelly Kent Beckstrom died peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at age 55, in Houston, Texas at the MD Anderson Cancer Medical Center surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with a rare and aggressive anaplastic thyroid cancer diagnosed April 4, 2014. He was born November 28, 1958 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the first child and only son of Kent McKell and Jeraldine Andersen Beckstrom. He had a very happy childhood. He attained his Eagle Scout Award at the age of 13. He attended Davis High School where he was Senior Class President and All State Football Full Back (just like his Grandpa Andersen). Following his full time mission in Minneapolis, Minnesota for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1977-1979), he married his sweetheart, Ruthe Packer in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on December 5, 1980. Kelly was the co-owner of the Kents Marketplace Grocery Chain of Northern Utah and the ACE Hardware Store in Brigham City, Utah. He enjoyed being with his family, hunting, fishing, horseback and mule riding, farming, scuba diving, playing racquetball, flying, golfing and supporting his family in sports. He rarely missed his children's events and games. His entire life was centered around his family and caring for them in every way. He received more joy from spending time with them in whatever they were doing. They meant the world to him. He was such a supportive husband and father. Kelly was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved his Savior, Jesus Christ! He showed his testimony by the way he lived his life- - in service to others. So often he was found (night or day) helping family and friends. His favorite church calling was teaching sunbeams with his sweetheart, Ruthe. Kelly is survived by his wife, Ruthe Packer, one son, Kyle Beckstrom, four daughters, Monica (Gabe) Mund; Heidi (Travis) Burton; McKell (Joseph) Jackson; Mindi Beckstrom; nine grandchildren, Saige, Maycie, Payton, Beck, Mitt, Violet, Taygen, Flynn, Lars Kelly and one on the way; parents, Kent and Jeraldine Beckstrom; sisters, Kathy ( Dave) Lloyd; Toni (David) McKay; Amy (Jeff) Johansen. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George Malcolm (Mel) and Lena Andersen and Bill and Della Beckstrom. A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 10, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Nibley Stake Center, 3650 South 450 West, Nibley, Utah. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 11th at 12 Noon at the Nibley Stake Center. Interment will be in the Millville Cemetery, 204 North 100 East, Millville, Utah.

My sincerest condolences to the family. I worked at the Kent's Market in Roy for many years. I worked a couple of times with Kelly. He was a wonderful man who was always thinking of his family. It was an honor to work alongside such a wonderful family. My heart and prayers are with you all.
We are so very sad to hear of your loss. I don't have the words to express myself properly. Please know that you and your family are in our prayers and know that the Savior will sustain you through this very difficult time. I read in this morning's newspaper that you have lost your dear son Kelly. It isn't in the order of things to have a child die before the parent. My heart goes out to you. He was a fine son and acoomplished much in his short life time. Know that I am thinking about you and your family. I will let my dad know about your loss.

I worked side by side with Kelly in the early days of Kents in Tremonton. He was always fun to work with. I saw his empathy for others many times at the store. I will never forget him.
I just found out about Kellie's passing. I am so sorry. He was a good friend to me in high-school. He made a difference in my life by serving as a role-model with high-standards. He was fun to be around. He was kind, caring, and had integrity. He will be missed!
