BRIGHAM CITY – George Dayton Kelly slipped away to heaven to join his brothers on Monday, February 17, 2014 in Brigham City, Utah. He was born on March 5, 1938 in Price, Utah, a son of Dayton Liddell and Alba Mildred Waterman Kelly. George was educated in Helper, Utah and Grand Junction, Colorado. He married his sweetheart Joan Fillmore on December 31, 1959 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various callings including Ward and Stake Clerk. He served with his wife in the St. George Member Location Mission. In his younger years he enjoyed acting in and directing ward and stake plays. George was employed as a machinist and later a manufacturing engineer at Thiokol/ATK for 40 years. After he retired he used his CNC knowledge to make beautiful wood carvings. He was a true techie, he loved the newest technology with bells and whistles-especially if he had it first. He enjoyed camping, hiking, and exploring the outdoors all his life and had many fun adventures with his family. He did math problems for fun. His family was the most important part of his life and he loved and helped them all through his life. He had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and bore his testimony often to his family and to others. The family would like to thank the River LDS Ward members and all the aides and staff at Integrity Hospice. Surviving are his wife, Joan; four children: JoLene (Brian) Thompson, Brigham City; John D. (Lora) Kelly, Kaysville; KayLynn (Carl) Hanson, Denver, CO; Kathleen Kelly, South Ogden; 21 grandchildren and five great grandchildren with one on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Gary Edward Kelly and Henry Patrick Kelly; step-mother, Julia Kelly; step father, James George Bonnell; nephew, Robert Kelly and one grandson, Joseph Thompson. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 12 Noon at River LDS Ward Chapel, 531 North 100 West, Brigham City. Many dear memories have come to mind upon hearing the news of George's passing. The years spent as a son in law were an honor for me. I learned much and thoroughly enjoyed the high adventure in the out of doors on family outings. Although different paths have been followed I still cherish the love, example, and council George shared with me. I am a better person today because of knowing this great man. He will be missed.
