Viewing: Thursday, June 21 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, and at the church on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Funeral services: Friday, 22 June 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City LDS 7th Ward Chapel, 531 North 100 West.

Interment: Ogden City Cemetery

BRIGHAM CITY - Age 86, graduated to a new awakening on the other side on 18th of June 2012 after a short illness.
William was born 23 February 1926 in Fayetteville, Washington, Arkansas a son of John William and Minnie Ada Evans Bess (Best).
Bill joined the US Navy in 1943 serving in the Pacific Islands receiving an honorable discharge in 1946.
He belonged to the Disabled American Veterans of Davis County Chapter 14 and also a member of the American Legion Post 10.
He was a cross country truck driver for 32 years and retired from Rockwell International where he was a machinist and mill operator for 21 years.
He married Frances Louise Rentsch and they had three children, Teresa Susan Bess, Deborah Lynn Bess, and John Lawrence Bess. He was later divorced.  He then married Patricia Thelma Stall and later divorced.  Bill then married Shirleen Payne on 17th February 1979 in Ventura, Ventura County, California. Their marriage was solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS Temple three years later.  Bill and Shirleen served several missions to Cove Fort, Houston Texas and Adam-ondi-ahman in Missouri.
They have been very active as volunteers at the Brigham City Senior Center and loved helping people.
Surviving are his wife, Shirleen, his three children, Teresa (Thomas) Whalen; Deborah Lynn Bess, John Lawrence (Kalena) Bess; three step children, Kayleen Bekker (Jeffery) Paige and Kenn Lou Bekker, Kristine Bekker (deceased) (James) Glidewell; 16 grandchildren, Shawn & Bryan Whalen; Jason & Nicole Bess; Chad, Mandy, Kelly, and Robin Paige; Austin and Nellie Bekker; Amy Glidewell  Ray, Aaron Thomas Glidewell, (deceased), Amber Shirleen Glidewell (Michael, M.D.) Lawson and acquired grandchildren, Tyler Ayres, James and Samuel Glidewell and five great grandchildren, Aaron, Tristen Ray; Cassie and Nathaniel Paige and Charlotte Lawson. Siblings, Lillie Belle Best, deceased; John William (Delores-deceased) Best, Etta Louise (Cecil-deceased) Arnold, Frank Edward-deceased (Shelia) Best, Barbara Jean (Bob) Picking, Charles Jackson (Barbara) Best, Claudia J. (George) Pepper, Joseph Best and Kaye (Jerry) Krein and only one cousin, Russell Widders.
The family would like to thank Encompass Home Health and Hospice, especially to Lori, Paige, Lisa, Laura and others for the good care that gave to Bill.
In lieu of flowers make a donation to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Humanitarian Fund or your favorite charity.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, 22 June 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City LDS 7th Ward Chapel, 531 North 100 West.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 21 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, and at the church on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Interment will be in the Ogden City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Combined Davis and Weber County Honor Guard.
